Theme Signal
Genomics/biotech, emerging-markets growth and disruptive technology led the latest theme tape, while blockchain and cannabis weakened as lower oil and long-end yields encouraged selective risk-taking without producing a broad AI chase.
Investment Digest
The thematic backdrop is modestly more supportive Tuesday, with crude lower, long-end Treasury yields down 3–4 bp and futures higher following Monday’s advance. Monday’s tape also offered a tentative improvement in breadth after seven consecutive weeks of equal-weight underperformance, while the Nasdaq reached another record and the S&P 500 finished within 0.3% of its high. AI was not the primary driver; instead software, emerging markets, industrial metals and healthcare led, while the broader investment debate remained centered on whether strong earnings and AI capital spending can continue to overcome historically restrictive long-term yields. Pasted markdown Lower oil and rates are supportive today, while AMD’s comments on strong 2027 demand, potential nuclear-power contracting between Google and Constellation, and continued AI fundraising reinforce the compute-and-power buildout. ADP payrolls, multiple Fed speakers and the 3-year Treasury auction are the near-term tests before Wednesday’s FOMC minutes and 10-year auction.
Thematic Tail of the Tape
The latest theme data show leadership broadening away from pure semiconductor momentum. ARKG surged 5.13% and is now up 20.43% over 1M, while LABU gained 3.48%; emerging-markets growth also strengthened, with EMQQ up 3.92% and EMIF up 3.77%. ARKK gained 3.28% and has attracted $2.31B over 1M, providing unusually strong price-and-flow confirmation for targeted disruptive growth. Cloud software remained firm, with WCLD up 2.13%, while CIBR’s $956M of 1M inflows and 12.08% 1M return show strong sponsorship behind cybersecurity. Semiconductors remain powerful on an intermediate horizon—SOXX is up 13.47% and SMH 11.80% over 1M—but recent flows have cooled, with SOXX losing $(191M) over 1M and SMH attracting only $149M. The weakest daily exposures were CRPT (-3.45%), YOLO (-3.25%), CNBS (-2.31%), WGMI (-2.18%) and MSOS (-1.79%), leaving blockchain and cannabis as the clearest near-term laggards.
Bottom Line
The tactical message is becoming more nuanced than simply overweighting AI. Semiconductors retain some of the strongest intermediate price trends in the universe and SOXX/SMH still hold roughly $19.1B of combined YTD inflows, but their latest 1M flow signal has cooled substantially. ARKK currently offers cleaner near-term price-and-flow confirmation, while cybersecurity is quietly strengthening through CIBR’s 12.08% 1M gain and nearly $1B of 1M inflows. The sharp biotechnology/genomics move is increasingly interesting, although LABU’s still-negative 1M trend argues against treating the entire group as a confirmed breakout. Conversely, BAI’s 10.88% 1M gain alongside $(544M) of outflows and the persistent redemptions from QQQ and MTUM show that investors remain willing to own specific growth winners while reducing broad factor exposure. The preferred posture is overweight selective semiconductors, cybersecurity, disruptive technology and broad-market exposure, with tactical genomics/biotech and emerging-markets growth; remain underweight broad momentum, cannabis, weaker blockchain exposure and flow-negative broad AI vehicles until breadth and sponsorship improve further.
